Three-month change: continued growth in petroleum-related manufacturing
According to seasonally-adjusted figures, manufacturing output increased with 1.7 per cent in the second quarter, compared with the first quarter. There was especially strong activity within building of ships and oil platforms, with an output increase of 7.5 per cent. Furthermore, food products as well as the industry grouping computer and electrical equipment contributed positively to the growth.
Overall, petroleum-related manufacturing saw a clear increase of 4.8 per cent this quarter (see figure 2). The growth is, among other factors, related to an increase in the investment activity in the oil and gas sector over the last year. At the same time, several of the traditionally petroleum-related manufacturing businesses saw an increase in output directed at other market segments than oil and gas.
