The consumption of electricity remains high
The consumption of electricity so far in 2001 remains high, even if the electricity consumption decreased from June last year to June this year. The production of electricity in June was down 29.6 per cent from June last year.
The gross consumption of electricity in June was 8 089 GWh, which is down 4.5 per cent compared with the corresponding month last year. The gross electricity consumption in June is still one of the highest measured for this month even if there has been a decrease from June last year to June this year. The gross electricity consumption so far this year reached a record high of 67 238 GWh, which is an increase of 3.4 per cent compared with the corresponding period in 2000. The consumption of electricity, other than in the energy intensive manufacturing, increased 4.4 per cent to 50 613 GWh in the same period. The increase in the consumption can partly be explained by colder weather so far this year than for the corresponding period last year.
The consumption in the production of energy intensive manufacturing in June was 2 605 GWh, which is down 3.6 per cent compared with the corresponding month last year. However, the consumption so far this year was up 0.3 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.
Decrease in the production of electricity
The production of electricity in June was 7 603 GWh. This is a decrease of 29.6 per cent compared with the corresponding month last year and 6.5 per cent lower than the yearly average for this month for the last 10 years. The electricity production so far this year is 63 328 GWh compared with 73 519 GWh for the corresponding period last year, which gives a decrease of 13.9 per cent.
The contents in the water reservoirs in mid-June were 50.7 per cent of total capacity. This is 15.2 percentage points lower than for the corresponding period last year and 8.3 percentage points lower than the median for this period from 1990 to 2000.
Import surplus of electricity
Imports and exports of electricity in June were 872 GWh and 386 GWh respectively. This gives an import surplus of 486 GWh. The imports and exports of electricity so far this year have also given an import surplus of 3 910 GWh, while there was an export surplus of 8 485 GWh in the corresponding period last year.
