Record high May-import of power
Low production and relative normal consumption of power contributed to record high net imports in May. Net imports of power were 1 555 GWh, with a value of NOK 362 million.
In May imports were 1663 GWh and exports 108 GWh. Norway got most of the power from Sweden like earlier this year. Imports from Sweden were 1103 GWh this month. The production of power so far this year has been 44 446 GWh, which is a decrease of 20.8 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year. The production was 7 284 GWh in May. This is 17 per cent below average production in the last 10 years. That can be related to low reservoir level and no danger for overflow in the reservoir towards the autumn. The reservoir levels were at the end of May 28.2 per cent of total capacity, while the median is at 46.4 per cent. The trickle in May was 19 TWh, which is the average for the last thirteen years. The reservoir levels this Monday (7 July) were 59.1 per cent of total capacity.
More wind power production
The wind power production has increased considerably this year. This can be seen in connection with the extension of wind power production. Two new large windmill parks were put into operation last autumn. The wind power production has so far this year been 99 GWh. Last year the production was 19 GWh in the same period.
Low consumption in power-intensive manufacturing
The gross consumption of power was 8 839 GWh in May, which is 2 per cent lower than average for the last 5 years and 0.5 per cent lower than the corresponding month last year. The consumption in common supply increased by 1 per cent compared with the corresponding month last year, while the consumption in power-intensive manufacturing decreased by 3.5 per cent.
