Production of power continues to remain low

The suppliers produced 8 529 GWh in September, which is a decrease of 10.3 per compared with September last year. The production so far this year has been 20 per cent less than in 2002.

Production, consumption and export surplus of electric energy in September. 1979-2003. GWh

The production of power was 8 529 in September, which is 12.1 per cent below average production for the last ten years. Low water levels in the reservoirs are the main reason for this. The water level in the country's reservoirs was 68.8 per cent of total capacity in the middle of September, and increased by 2 percentage points this month. In the middle of September last year the water level was 84.0 per cent, but decreased by 1.8 percentage points last year. The reservoir level was yesterday (10 November) 67.0 per cent of total capacity compared with 69.1 per cent at the same time last year.

Small net exports

Net exports of power from Norway in September were 667 GWh and imports were 464 GWh. Net exports to Sweden were 329 GWh, while Norway imported 100 GWh from Denmark. Norway also had net imports of 12 and 14 GWh from Russia and Finland in september, and altogether Norway has imported 6.7 TWh so far this year.

Increase in consumption in power-intensive manufacturing

The consumption of power in power-intensive manufacturing was 2 584 GWh in September. This is an increase of 6.3 per cent from last year, and is due to an increase in the consumption in production of aluminum and other metals. The consumption in this sector has increased by 8.4 per cent so far this year, and is caused by an increase in production capacity. The consumption besides power-intensive manufacturing, other industry and household, was 5743 GWh. This is about the same as last year.
