High consumption of power
The consumption of power in January was the third highest in January trough the years. The consumption increased by 7.8 per cent from last year and the consumption in this month has only been higher in 2001 and 2002.
Gross consumption of power was 12 842 GWh in January - an increase of 7.8 per cent from last year. The consumption outside power intensive manufacturing increased by 4.8 per cent. Power - intensive used 2 802 GWh - an increase of 19.9 per cent from last year. Imports came to 1 001 GWh in January and exports 485 GWh. Norway net imported mostly from Denmark.
Increase in production
The production increased by 12 per cent in January compared with the same month last year. The production was 12 326 GWh. The reservoir level was in the middle of January 52.7 per cent of total capacity. Last year the reservoir level was 43.5 per cent at the same time. The production of thermal power increased by 16.1 per cent but it constituted only 0.7 per cent of total production.
Lower power prices compared to last year
The spot price was NOK 0.249/KWh in January 2004, while it was NOK 0.523/KWh in January last year. The spot price decreased during the last 3 months. The spot price was NOK 0.255/KWh in December 2003 and NOK 0.241/KWh in February 2004.
