Record high consumption of power

In December 2004 power intensive industries had a record high consumption of electricity for one moth ever . The consumption amounted to 3 013 GWh - an increase of 11.8 per cent compared with the corresponding month in 2003.

The consumption in power intensive industries is high as a result of large production and capacity utilization. These industries used 33 444 GWh in 2004 and 30 384 GWh in 2003. Gross domestic consumption was 121 919 GWh in 2004 - an increase of 5.9 per cent from 2003.

High imports of power in 2004

Norway imported 15 334 GWh and exported 3 842 GWh in 2004. Norway's net import is equivalent with 9.4 per cent of the total consumption of power in 2004. The imports in December came to 1 308 GWh and the exports 310 GWh. The production of power was 11 566 GWh in December, an increase of 9.7 per cent from the corresponding month in 2003. Average production in December has been 12 147 GWh for the last teen years. Total production was 110 427 GWh in 2004 and 107 273 GWh in 2003.
