Higher power production in 2005

The total production of power in 2005 amounted to 138 073 GWh. This is 24.8 per cent more than the total production in 2004, and the highest production since 2000. The high production rate also resulted in high exports, with a net export of 12 042 GWh.

Production, consumption and export surplus of electric energy in December. 1979-2005. GWh

Gross domestic consumption of electricity for the whole year was 126 030 GWh. Of this, consumption in energy-intensive manufacturing came to 33 640 GWh and other consumption amounted to 92 390 GWh. Total net export of power was 12 042 GWh in 2005 In comparison there was a net import of power of 11 441 GWh in 2004.

All time high December

December saw a record high production of power in 2005. The power production in the last month of the year amounted to 14 600 GWh, 26.2 per cent more than the same month last year, and a new record for December.

The high level in production also resulted in record high exports in December, with a net export of 1 328 GWh. Due to several months with heavy rainfall the reservoir filling is high. The reservoir filling was in mid-December 82,7 per cent of total capacity. This is 6.9 percentage points higher than the median.

Increased gross domestic consumption

Gross domestic consumption of electricity in December increased with 5.5 per cent compared to the same period last year and was 13 273 GWh. The electricity consumption in energy-intensive manufacturing amounted to 2 833 GWh.This represents a fall of 5.9 per cent compared with same period in 2004. The category other consumption (Gross domestic consumption subtracted consumption in energy-intensive manufacturing) saw the main growth with an increase of 9.3 per cent and amounted to 10 440 GWh.
