Very high production of power

The production of power amounted to 10 723 gigawatts (GWh) in June, 8.2 per cent more than in the corresponding month last year and the second highest figure ever recorded for June. Gross consumption of electricity totalled 8 975 GWh, the highest figure ever recorded.

The high production must be seen in conjunction with large snow melting and good reservoirs filling. Throughout the month, the filling was above the median and totalled 75.1 percent at the end of week 26. The median filling for the corresponding period in the last 17 years is 67.5 per cent.

High consumption of electricity

Excluding power-intensive manufacturing, consumption of electricity came to 4 854 GWh in June. This is 4.2 per cent more than in the corresponding month last year and the second highest figure ever recorded for June. Households, services and other manufacturing than the power-intensive account for the majority of this consumption.

The consumption in power-intensive manufacturing came to 2 810 GWh in June, an increase of 2.8 per cent compared with the corresponding month last year and the second highest figure ever recorded.

High net exports of power

Norway’s imports of power amounted to 119 GWh in June 2008, while exports totalled 1 867 GWh. This gave a net export of 1 748 GWh.
