Rise in operating profit
The operating profit in the power industry came to NOK 29.3 billion in 2013; an increase of 10 per cent compared with 2012. This may be seen in conjunction with higher electricity prices.

Production plants had the highest operating profit in 2013, at NOK 21.8 billion. The operating profit of grid companies amounted to NOK 4.5 billion, while the operating profit of remaining plants totalled NOK 3.0 billion.
Annual profit in the power industry came to NOK 14.1 billion in 2013. This is 7.2 per cent more than the previous year.
Rise in gross investments
The gross investments (purchase minus sale of fixed assets) in the power industry rose from NOK 16.7 billion in 2012 to NOK 19.1 billion in 2013. Gross investments in hydro power plants came to NOK 5.0 billion, while gross investments in thermal power plants and wind power plants were NOK 21 and 450 million respectively. Investments in central grid systems, regional grid systems and local grid systems were NOK 4.4, 1.5 and 3.5 billion respectively in 2013.
Lower electricity generation
Electricity generation totalled 134.0 TWh in 2013; a decline of 9.3 per cent compared with 2012 - a year with record high electricity generation. Norway’s exports of power came to 15.1 TWh in 2013, while imports totalled 10.1 TWh. This gave a net export of 5 TWh.
Increase in the electricity consumption
There was a rise of 0.7 per cent in total net electricity consumption from 2012 to 2013 and the consumption totalled 119.5 TWh. Household and agriculture roughly accounted for a third of the total electricity consumption. Other industries with a high share were power intensive manufacturing (29 per cent) and services (21 per cent).
