Increase in household electricity price

The average price of electricity for households was 7.4 per cent higher in the middle of the first quarter compared to the same quarter in 2010. Variable price contracts had the biggest price increase in the first quarter, while the price of contracts tied to the spot price decreased in the same period.

The overall average price of electricity for households, including grid rent and taxes, amounted to 117.3 øre/kWh in the first quarter. This is 4.8 per cent higher compared to the same quarter in 2010. The grid rent and taxes came to 27.8 and 32.0 øre/kWh respectively.

Spot contracts cheaper than variable price contracts

Households tied to spot price contracts paid 54.3 øre/kWh on average, excluding grid rent and taxes, in the middle of the first quarter of 2011, while the price of variable price contracts amounted to 64.4 øre/kWh. One-year fixed-price contracts and other fixed-price contracts totalled 46.1 and 43.0 øre/kWh respectively.

Lower electricity prices for manufacturing excl. energy-intensive manufacturing

The average price of electricity in the service industry was 52.9 øre per kWh, excluding taxes and grid rent, in the middle of the first quarter. This is about the same level as in the first quarter one year ago.

In manufacturing excl. energy-intensive manufacturing the average price in the middle of the third quarter amounted to 37.7 øre per kWh. This is 2.9 per cent lower compared to the same quarter in 2010.

Increase in electricity prices for energy-intensive manufacturing

For energy-intensive manufacturing and the pulp and paper industry, the average price of electricity was 25.8 øre per kWh in the middle of the first quarter, excluding taxes and grid rent. This is 5.3 per cent higher than the first quarter 2010.

The measuring period for the first quarter of 2011 was week 6. The average elspot price for the whole quarter was 1.8 øre/kWh higher than the elspot price in week 6.
