The statistics for prices of electric energy are quarterly statistics covering prices in the end-user and wholesale market, and provide information on the factual development of the prices of electric energy. In the 1st quarter of 2014, the average price of electricity was 9.7 per cent lower compared to the same quarter last year.

Lower electricity prices

The average price of electricity for households in the first quarter, excluding taxes and grid rent, was 31.5 øre per kWh. This is 9.7 per cent lower compared to the same quarter in 2013. The electricity price for service industry and manufacturing was also lower in the first quarter.

The overall average price of electricity for households, including grid rent and taxes, amounted to 84.8 øre per kWh in the first quarter. This is 4.3 per cent lower compared to the same quarter in 2013. The grid rent and taxes came to 26 and 27.3 øre per kWh respectively.

Spot contracts cheapest

Households tied to spot price contracts paid 29.3 øre per kWh on average, excluding grid rent and taxes, in the first quarter of 2014, while the price of variable price contracts amounted to 35.8 øre per kWh. New fixed-price contracts lasting one year or less and fixed-price contracts lasting one year or more totalled 33.4 and 35.8 øre per kWh respectively. Other fixed-price contracts amounted to 36.2 øre per kWh.

Lower electricity prices for the service industry and in manufacturing

The average price of electricity in the service industry was 29.9 øre per kWh, excluding taxes and grid rent, in the first quarter of 2014. This is 12.3 per cent higher than the same quarter last year.

In manufacturing excl. energy-intensive manufacturing, the average price amounted to 28.4 øre per kWh. This is 16 per cent lower compared to the 1st quarter last year.

For energy-intensive manufacturing, the average price of electricity was 29.3 øre per kWh in the first quarter, excluding taxes and grid rent. This is 1.3 per cent lower compared to the first quarter in 2013.
