Higher consumption of district heating

The consumption of district heating was 2 494.5 GWh in 2006, an increase of 6.2 per cent from 2005. The use of district heating has increased almost every year since 1983, when the consumption was 193 GWh.

The gross production of hot water and steam came to 3 219.9 GWh in 2006, of which 100.2 GWh was used in the production of electricity and 374.3 GWh was heat not distributed, resulting in a net production of district heating of 2 745.4 GWh.

Total investments in district heating in 2006 came to NOK 894 million. The price of district heating increased from 45.9 øre/kWh in 2005 to 53.2 øre/kWh in 2006, exclusive of value added tax. Higher prices and increased consumption resulted in an increase in sales income of 22.9 per cent. In 2006, sales of district heating amounted to NOK 1 327 million.
