Increased consumption of district heating

The consumption of district heating was 2 917 GWh in 2008; an increase of 5.8 per cent from 2007. The use of district heating has increased almost every year since 1983, when the consumption was 193 GWh.

The gross production of hot water and steam came to 3 741 GWh in 2008, of which 99 GWh was used in the production of electricity and 382 GWh was non-distributed heat, resulting in a net production of district heating of 3 260 GWh.

Total investments in district heating in 2008 came to NOK 1 250 million. The price of district heating increased from 50.5 øre/kWh in 2007 to 59.3 øre/kWh in 2008, exclusive of value added tax. Increased consumption and higher prices resulted in a large increase in sales income of almost 25 per cent. In 2008, sales of district heating amounted to NOK 1.7 billion.
