Stable development in New Orders
The order-based industry reports that the level of new orders received remained fairly stable throughout 2001, and the 4th quarter proved no exception. Total stock of orders showed a moderate decline throughout the same period.
New orders received were down 34 per cent compared with the fourth quarter 2000. A substantial fall in demand from the domestic market was the main cause for this development. However, it is important to keep in mind that the level of new orders received was unusually high throughout the final months of 2000. Revised data show that the decline in new orders throughout the third quarter 2001 was less than previously expected.
Total stock of orders fell throughout the fourth quarter 2001, but was nevertheless only slightly lower than in the corresponding quarter in 2000.
