Total stocks in industry reduces
New orders continued to fall in the second quarter of 2009. A low demand gives a significant decline in total stocks.
Manufacturers working on new orders reported a negative development in new orders received. New orders received were 39.2 per cent lower in the second quarter of 2009 than in the corresponding quarter last year, and was declining both in the domestic and the export market. The results were especially negative in the industries paper and paper products, basic metals, machinery and equipment, ships boats and oil platforms and also transport equipment. Total stocks fell by 29.6 per cent in the same period. The level was especially low in the industries paper and paper products, basic metals and also in transport equipment. The fall in stocks continued within ships, boats and oil platforms.

Important announcement: New industry classificationAs from the first quarter of 2009, a new version of Eurostat's industry classification, NACE, will be in use. Statistics on new orders are affected by the change of nomenclature from the publication of the first quarter of 2009 results.
