Index of orders in manufacturing (discontinued), Q3 2011

Statistics Norway has decided to stop the publication of the Index of orders in manufacturing from the first quarter of 2018. One reason for this was that the statistic previously was a part of Eurostat's regulation for short-term statistics, but this requirement was removed from the regulation in 2012. However, indicators for new orders and stock of orders are available in Business tendency survey for manufacturing, mining and quarrying.

Short-lived upswing in new orders

New orders in the manufacturing industry fell significantly from the second quarter of 2011 to the third quarter of 2011, making the marked upswing in the preceding quarter a short-term development.

New orders and unfilled orders. Unadjusted. 2005=100.

New orders in the manufacturing industry were down by 17 per cent from the second quarter of 2011 to the third quarter of 2011, but were up by 29 per cent from the third quarter of 2010 to the third quarter of 2011. Unfilled orders were up by 5 per cent from the second quarter of 2011 to the third quarter of 2011.

The reduction in new orders applied to both the domestic and the export market. The export market contributed to the growth in the unfilled orders from the second to the third quarter of 2011.
