Decline in industrial output

There has been a weekly-adjusted decline of 2.6 per cent in manufacturing during the six first months this year, compared with the same period in 1999. Large differences exist among the manufacturing industries.

The slow down in the engineering industries continues, however. The shipyards and the offshore directed sectors are still having a weak production performance. For some of the industries producing intermediate goods the production performance has been good. This is related to positive tendencies for new orders received from the export markets.

Oil and gas extraction

There has been an increase of 7 per cent, in weekly-adjusted data, in the oil and gas extraction during the six first months this year, compared with the same period last year. Exploration activities have been on a low level in June this year.

Moving holidays

Seasonally adjusted figures for the manufacturing show a decline of 2 per cent from May to June this year. No adjustments have been made for the moving holidays in June 2000 - Whitsun and Ascension Day. The same moving holidays occurred in May last year. The rate of changes in the seasonally and the weekly adjusted figures has been affected by these differences. Weekly adjusted data show a decrease by 6.6 per cent from June 1999 to June 2000.
