Increase in manufacturing

There has been an evident increase in manufacturing from May to June, according to seasonally adjusted figures, related to an increase in food products and transport equipments. The first six months show no change in manufacturing compared to the same period last year.

Oil- and gas extraction experienced a 0.8 percent growth from May to June, according to seasonally adjusted figures. During the first six months the increase in production has been somewhat over 4 percent for oil- and gas extraction compared to the same period last year, according to weekly-adjusted figures.

Production increase for intermediate goods

The production of intermediate goods (pulp, paper and paper products, chemicals and chemical products, basic metals and metal products) experienced a growth of 2.0 percent from May to June. The strongest contribution comes from the production of metal products, however the production has also increased in the manufacture of wood and wood products and nonmetallic and mineral products. After a strong growth for basic chemicals in May, the output fell with 5 percent in June. Despite the increase in the production of intermediate goods the last two months, there has been a decline of approximately 2 percent during the first six months compared to the same period last year.

Increase in production for capital goods

Industries producing capital goods (fabricated metals, machinery and equipment, motor vehicles, oil-platforms a.o.) have had the strongest increase in production the last six months, with a 2.2 percent increase compared to the first six months last year. From May to June the production had a 2.9 percent growth, according to seasonally adjusted figures. Fabricated metal products and transport equipment caused the increase in June.

Stable production of consumer goods the first six months

Production of consumer goods had a 2.7 percent increase from May to June, after a 0.5 percent decline from April to May. A strong increase in production in the manufacture of food and beverages has a positive effect on the consumer goods. The activity within production of fish and fish products is still low, however the increase was strong in June, according to seasonally adjusted figures. Within the manufacture of food products there is a continuing production growth of meat and meat products. Total production of consumer goods experiences little change the first six months compared to the same period last year.
