Decline in intermediate goods

The production in manufacturing decreased by 1.8 per cent in July compared with June this year, according to seasonally adjusted figures. A decrease in intermediate goods and consumer goods output caused these changes.

The intermediate goods output dropped 3.3 per cent. A decline in pulp, paper and paper products by 11.6 per cent, has partly caused this development. The declines in the production of basic metals and rubber and plastic products and in other non-metallic mineral products have also lowered the intermediate goods output. Meanwhile some slight decreases in food products, beverages, and tobacco products and in publishing, printing, and reproduction have affected negatively to the output of consumer goods.

Small changes in production

According to the weekly-adjusted figures, the manufacturing production is almost unchanged since July last year. While the intermediate goods and the consumer goods have had a decrease, the capital goods have had an increase in the output.

New figures for June 2002

Due to new information, figures for June 2002 were calculated once more. The activities in the extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas had a reduction. Lower activities connected to the services related to the extraction of crude petroleum and natural gas made this change. There have been only small changes within manufacturing.
