Increase in manufacturing

Seasonally adjusted figures show an increase in manufacturing from February to March. This is due to an increase in the production within capital goods as well as in intermediate goods.

The production of intermediate goods experienced an increase of about 3 per cent. This is related to the continuous increase in manufacturing of non-ferrous metals. New production facilities and an increase in new orders from abroad at good prices keep up the activity within this particular industry. Wood and wood products also experienced a positive growth, though related to the domestic marked.

Capital goods

The production of capital goods have had an increase of approximately 2 per cent from February to March, after a slighter increase from January to March. Most of the industries within capital goods experienced a growth in March. This is related to an improvement in the domestic marked. Machinery and equipment n.e.c and electrical and optical equipment show the largest increase while there is only a minor increase within transport equipment and oil platforms and modules. Although the last monthly figures show an increase, the figures for the first quarter of 2004 show a slight decrease compared with the previous period.
