Slight decrease in manufacturing

The output in manufacturing dropped by approximately 1 per cent in the third quarter of 2005 compared with the second quarter, according to seasonally adjusted figures. The output in intermediate goods and capital goods saw a minor decreased slightly.

The production of intermediate goods dropped by 0.6 per cent. Weak markets abroad and an increased competition from China caused a decline in the Norwegian production of silicon in 2005, as well as a downturn in the output of pulp, paper and paper products in the third quarter.

Capital goods down

The output in capital goods decreased by 1.2 per cent in the third quarter of 2005 compared with the second quarter. Transport and electrical and optical equipment experienced a drop in the output.

Machinery and equipment and fabricated metal products saw an increase in the production. There were only minor changes within oil platform and modules in the third quarter and the high level of activity from the second quarter this year continues.

Consumer goods decreased

The consumer goods experienced a 0.4 per cent decline in the output in the third quarter this year compared with the second quarter. Food products increased, while publishing, printing and reproduction and furniture experienced a decrease in the output.

Seasonally adjusted figures

The seasonally adjusted figures in the third quarter this year should be compared with the figures from the second quarter. The output in manufacturing had then a significant growth compared with the first quarter of 2005.
