Growth in the first half of 2006

The output in manufacturing increased by 3.7 per cent in the first half of 2006 compared with same period in 2005, according to figures adjusted for length of month. From the first to second quarter this year there was a 0.5 per cent drop, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The capital goods output experienced a 1.7 per cent growth in this last period. Transport and machinery equipment have seen a growth in the production, while the output from manufacture of electrical and optical equipment has declined. In the first half of 2006 the output in capital goods had an 8.7 per cent increase compared with the same period last year, according to figures adjusted for length of month. Oil platforms and fabricated metals products have had a significant growth.

The output in intermediate goods declined by 2.0 per cent in the second quarter of 2006 compared with the first quarter, according to seasonally adjusted figures. This was due to a drop within parts of basic metals, pulp, paper and paper products and wood and wood products. Basic chemicals and non-ferrous metals saw a minor improvement. There was 3.3 per cent growth within intermediate goods in the first half of 2006 compared with the same period last year, according to figures adjusted for length of month.

The consumer goods output decreased by 1.2 per cent in the second quarter this year compared with the previous one, according to seasonally adjusted figures. In the first half of 2006 the output in consumer goods decreased by 0.5 per cent compared with same period of 2005, according to figures adjusted for length of month.

Norway and the euro-zone

From May 2005 to May 2006 there was a 5.6 per cent increase in the Norwegian manufacturing output. The industrial production rose by 4.9 per cent in the euro-zone during the same period, according to figures from Euro stat
