Continued growth in manufacturing

Compared with the previous three-month period, the output in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 1.3 per cent from December 2006 to February 2007, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

Capital goods output rose by 1.3 per cent in this last period. Oil platforms and modules and fabricated metal products have seen a continued upturn due to the high level of activity in the Norwegian oil and gas sector. Transport equipment and machinery equipment have had an increase related to the high stocks for building and fitting of supply boats, whereas electrical and optical equipment saw a minor drop in the production.

Growth for intermediate and consumer goods

The output in intermediate goods had a 1.3 per cent increase in the last period. A significant growth in the demand from abroad has caused a sharp rise in the Norwegian export prices in 2006. These effects have contributed to an increase in basic chemicals and non-ferrous metals in the last three-month period. Pulp, paper and paper products and wood and wood products have had a minor decrease in the output.

Consumer goods output experienced a 2.3 per cent growth from December 2006 to February 2007 compared with the previous three-month period. Food products as well as the manufacturing of furniture’s saw a rise in the production in this last period.

Since February 2006

The output in manufacturing had a 4.7 per cent growth from February 2006 to February 2007, according to working-day adjusted figures. The production in manufacturing dropped by 0.2 per cent from January 2007 to February 2007, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

Index of production, January 2007

The figures for January 2007 have been revised due to new information. Working-day adjusted figures show that the growth in manufacturing has been positively corrected when comparing to numbers from January 2006.

Norway and the euro-zone

According to working-day adjusted figures, there was a 4.0 per cent growth in the Norwegian manufacturing output from January 2006 to January 2007. The industrial production in the Euro zone increased by 3.7 per cent in the same period, according to figures from published by Eurostat
