Positive manufacturing output growth

Manufacturing output increased by 5.0 per cent in the first half of 2007 compared with the same period in 2006, according to working-day adjusted figures. Seasonally adjusted figures show a 0.8 per cent growth from the first to the second quarter of 2007.

Capital goods output saw a 4.3 per cent growth in output from the first to the second quarter this year, according to seasonally adjusted figures. All capital goods sectors experienced increasing output in this period. The production of intermediate goods dropped by 1.1 per cent in the second quarter. Recovery shutdowns in basic chemicals are the main contributors to this development. Consumer goods output declined by 0.5 per cent.

First half of 2007

The production of capital goods saw a 9.9 per cent growth in the first half of 2007 compared with the first half of 2006, according to working-day adjusted figures. Oil platforms, transport equipment as well as machinery and equipment stand for the greater part of this development. High levels of investments in the oil sector in previous years combined with an increase in demand for new ships have had an impact on capital goods output.

The output of intermediate goods rose by 3.7 per cent during the first half of 2007. Wood and wood production have seen an increase in output by 6.9 per cent. The production of consumer goods increased by 3.1 per cent. Durable consumer goods went up by 10.9 per cent.

Norway and the euro area

According to working-day adjusted figures, there was a 5.2 per cent growth in Norwegian manufacturing output from May 2006 to May 2007. The industrial production in the euro area increased by 2.5 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
