Slower growth rate in manufacturing

The output in Norwegian manufacturing rose by 0.3 per cent in the June to August period compared with the March to May period, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The production of capital goods increased by 3.7 per cent in the June to August 2007 period compared with the previous three-month period. The main driver behind this development was machinery and equipment, which rose by 6.6 per cent. There was also an increase in oil platforms and transport equipment output, influenced by deliveries to the oil and gas sector in Norway and abroad.

Decrease in production of intermediate and consumer goods

The output in intermediate goods fell by 0.8 per cent in the June to August period compared with the previous three-month period, mainly due to a 3.7 per cent decline in wood and wood products. The output in basic chemicals and other non-metal mineral products rose by 1.8 and 5.3 per cent respectively. There was also an increase in the production of non-ferrous metals and rubber and plastic products.

Consumer goods decreased by 1.2 per cent in the June to August period compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures. Food products decreased by 1.1 per cent.

Growth since August 2006

Manufacturing output increased by 4.2 per cent from August 2006 to August 2007, according to working-day adjusted figures. Capital goods output rose by 10.5 per cent while intermediate goods and consumer goods rose by 1.5 and 1.6 per cent respectively.

Norway and the euro area

According to working-day adjusted figures, there was a 5.1 per cent growth in Norwegian manufacturing output from July 2006 to July 2007. The industrial production in the euro area increased by 4.3 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
