Drop in manufacturing output

The output in Norwegian manufacturing dropped by 1.0 per cent from November 2007 to January 2008 compared with August to October 2007, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

Index of production for manufacturing January 1997- January 2008, 1995=100

The output in intermediate goods went down by 2.5 per cent in this period. This was mainly due to a decline in basic chemicals, basic metals and wood and wood products. There were only minor changes in the production of consumer goods and the output in food products was almost unaltered.

Capital goods

Capital goods output rose by 1.3 per cent from November 2007 to January 2008 compared with the previous three-month period. Growth in platforms and machinery and equipment contributed to this upturn.

Growth since January 2007

According to working-day adjusted figures the manufacturing output increased by 2.6 per cent in January 2008 compared with January 2007. The capital goods output had a significant increase, while the production of intermediate goods decreased.

Index of production 2008

Seasonal adjustments for movable public holidays have been updated in the index of production in 2008.

Norway and the euro area

According to working-day adjusted figures there was a 2.3 per cent drop in Norwegian manufacturing output from December 2006 to December 2007. Industrial production in the euro area rose by 1.0 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
