Minor decline in production

Output in Norwegian manufacturing fell by 0.4 per cent from December 2007 to February 2008 compared with the period September to November 2007, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

Index of production for manufacturing January 1997- February 2008, 1995=100

The output in capital goods rose by 2.2 per cent during this period. This is mainly due to growth in oil platforms and transport and machinery equipment. In the same period, the production of electrical and optical equipment decreased.

There was a 2.9 per cent drop in intermediate goods output from December 2007 to February 2008 compared with the previous three-month period. Basic chemicals and wood and wood products were the main contributors to this decline. Consumer goods output rose by 0.5 per cent.

Growth since February 2007

According to working-day adjusted figures the manufacturing output increased by 3.8 per cent in February 2008 compared with February 2007. The capital goods output had a significant increase, while there were only minor changes in consumer goods and intermediate goods output.

Index of production, January 2008

The index for January 2008 has been recalculated due to new information. According to working-day adjusted figures, the growth in manufacturing has been revised upwards compared to figures from January 2007.

Norway and the Euro area

According to working-day adjusted figures there was a 3.3 per cent increase in Norwegian manufacturing output from January 2007 to January 2008. Industrial production in the euro area rose by 3.4 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
