Growth in manufacturing output

Output in Norwegian manufacturing grew by 1.0 per cent in the first quarter of 2008 compared with the last quarter of 2007, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

Capital goods output rose by 4.1 per cent during this period. This was mainly due to growth in transport and machinery equipment. Fabricated metal products and oil platforms have also contributed to this upturn. Capital goods output has then seen a further rise due to the favourable order situation in recent years.

Intermediate and consumer goods output

There was a 1.8 per cent drop in intermediate goods output in the first quarter of 2008 compared with the last quarter of 2007. The output in wood and wood products as well as basic metal and basic chemicals went down.

Output in consumer goods increased by 0.5 per cent in the first quarter this year compared with the fourth quarter last year. Food products have seen a modest increase while publishing and printing and reproduction saw a drop in the production during this period.

Decrease since March 2007

There was a 0.4 per cent drop in manufacturing output in March 2008 compared with March 2007, according to working-day adjusted figures. The capital goods output has seen a 6.6 per cent rise, while the production in intermediate and consumer goods went down by 4.4 and 4.5 per cent respectively.

Norway and the Euro area

According to working-day adjusted figures there was a 3.8 per cent increase in Norwegian manufacturing output from February 2007 to February 2008. Industrial production in the euro area rose by 3.2 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
