Small changes in manufacturing output

There were only minor changes in manufacturing output in Norway from June to August 2008 compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures.

The capital goods output went up by 5.1 per cent in this last period. This was due to a further growth in output in oil platforms, machinery and equipment as well as transport equipment. The positive development within capital goods output continued due to the high stocks in manufacturing.

The output of intermediate goods dropped by 1.4 per cent in June to August 2008 compared with March to May this year. The production in wood and wood products and pulp, paper and paper products declined, while non-ferrous metals saw an increase in output.

Consumer goods output went down by 3.9 per cent from June to August 2008 compared with the previous three-month period. Food products had a downturn in the production, while publishing, printing and reproduction experienced a small increase.

Minor drop from July to August 2008

According to seasonally adjusted figures, manufacturing output had a 0.3 per cent drop from July to August this year. The output of capital goods declined by 2.5 per cent, while the production of intermediate and consumer goods was unchanged.

Growth since August 2007

The output in Norwegian manufacturing increased by 2.8 per cent from August last year to August this year, according to working-day adjusted figures. Capital goods output expanded by 14.3 per cent during this period, while the production of consumer goods was reduced by 6.5 per cent.

Norway and the euro area

There was a 3.6 per cent growth in Norwegian manufacturing output from July 2007 to July 2008, according to working-day adjusted figures. Industrial production in the euro area dropped by 1.9 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
