Minor change in production

Industrial production went down by 1.1 per cent in the period June to August 2009 compared with March to May, according to seasonally adjusted figures. The decline was, however, lesser than in the two previous three-month periods.

Output in refined petroleum, chemicals and pharmaceutical products went down by 7.0 per cent in this last period. Fabricated metal products and ships, boats and oil platforms went down by 3.2 and 2.5 per cent respectively. The decline in ships, boats and oil platforms is partly due to the decreasing stocks of unfilled orders (see Statistics on new orders ).

After a sharp drop in production in the two previous three-month periods, production in basic metals went up by 3.8 per cent in June to August compared with the previous three-month period. The output in wood and wood products and food products increased by 6.5 and 1.0 per cent respectively.
