Minor changes in production

Production in manufacturing increased by 0.6 per cent from March to May 2010 compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally-adjusted figures.

Output in wood and wood products and rubber, plastic and mineral products increased significantly in this last period due to growth in domestic demand. There was also an upturn in paper and paper products, basic chemicals and basic metals. This development was partly due to increasing demand from abroad as well as long-term contracts in the Norwegian solar industry.

Production of food and beverages increased by 0.7 per cent from March to May 2010 compared with the previous three-month period. Output in printing and reproduction saw a slight decrease.

Minor changes in ship and oil platforms

Output in ship and oil platforms went down by 0.4 per cent from March to May compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures. There was also a decrease in production in computer and electrical equipment as well as repair and installation of machinery, while machinery and equipment saw a slight increase.

From May 2009 to May 2010

Output in manufacturing went up by 2.2 per cent from May 2009 to May 2010, according to working-day adjusted figures. There has been a strong growth in wood and wood products, basic chemicals and basic metals, while output in ships and oil platforms has dropped 7.1 per cent since May 2009.

From April to May 2010

Output in Norwegian manufacturing decreased by 0.9 per cent from April to May 2010, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. The output in ships and oil platforms went down slightly, while production in wood and wood products increased.

Norway and the euro area

There was a 3.0 per cent increase in Norwegian manufacturing output from April 2009 to April 2010, according to working-day adjusted figures. Industrial production in the euro area increased by 9.6 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat .
