Manufacturing. Seasonally adjusted. Three-month moving average 1999-2010

Index of production for manufacturing. January 1999-October 2010, 2005=100

This was related to an increase in the production of refined petroleum, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Production of ships, boats and oil platforms also experienced growth in the last three-month period. On the other hand, wood and wood products, food products and basic metals saw a decrease in production in this last period.

From October 2009 to October 2010

Output in manufacturing increased by 4.0 per cent from October 2009 to October 2010, according to working-day adjusted figures. Output in basic chemicals experienced a significant growth in this period due to increased activity in the Norwegian solar industry. Production in boats, ships and oil platforms, fabricated metals and food products dropped in this period, according to working-day adjusted figures.

From September to October 2010

Industrial production decreased by 0.3 per cent from September to October 2010, according to seasonally-adjusted figures. Production of food products decreased, while there was a growth in the production of refined petroleum, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Monthly changes must be interpreted with caution due to random variations in production in Norwegian manufacturing.

Norway and the euro area

The Norwegian manufacturing output increased by 3.3 per cent from September 2009 to September 2010, according to working-day adjusted figures. Industrial production in the euro area increased by 5.8 per cent in the same period, according to figures published by Eurostat.

Interpretation of seasonally-adjusted figures

In order to facilitate the interpretation of the short-term development, the index of production publishes three-month moving averages of the seasonally-adjusted figures. We normally compare the latest non-overlapping three-month periods, for instance August to October compared with May to July. Seasonally-adjusted monthly changes must be interpreted with caution.
