Industries with major changes in turnover

Food and beverages contributed with approximately NOK 7 billion to the growth in turnover, from NOK 158 billion to NOK 165 billion.

In the building of ships and oil platforms, turnover increased by NOK 6 billion from NOK 61 billion in 2010 to NOK 67 billion in 2011.

The machinery and equipment industry was the only industry with a considerable decline in turnover, from NOK 70 billion to NOK 65 billion. This decline in turnover was not accompanied by a fall in the number of employees, which increased, and was due to technical aspects in the annual accounts in some of the larger enterprises.

Small changes in number of employees and investments

Many industries had a decline in the number of employees. The total number of employees was 235 916 in 2010 and 234 044 in 2011; a decline of 0.8 per cent.

Investments were NOK 19 billion for 2010 and NOK 20 billion for 2011. Mining and quarrying was the industry with highest growth, with NOK 484 million. For building of ships and oil platforms the increase was NOK 428 million. Refined petroleum, chemicals and pharmaceuticals had a fall in investments by about NOK 500 million.
