Gross investments increased with almost 30 per cent from 2006, and amounted to NOK 28 billions in 2007.

High turnover for machinery and equipment

The largest growth in turnover took place in the machinery and equipment industry, with an increase from NOK 58 billion in 2006 to NOK 77 billion in 2007. That is equivalent to a 32.5 per cent increase. Turnover for the industry producing other transport equipment went up from NOK 46 billion to NOK 56 billion. Shipyards contribute substantially to the total turnover in this industry. Together, these two industries accounted for a third of the total growth within manufacturing, mining and quarrying.

2007 was a good year for several industries. The production of food products, beverages and tobacco is still the largest branch, with a turnover that amounted to almost NOK 150 billion. This branch contributed with 19.4 per cent of the total turnover.. 18.5 per cent of persons employed in manufacturing work in this branch.

Preliminary figures

Structural data, preliminary figures, is published for the enterprise level alone, whereas the final figures are compiled also for the establishments. The figures for the enterprise will usually deviate from figures on establishment level. This is due to the fact that the enterprises are registered in the industry subclass that comprises the main part of the activity of the enterprise, and therefore may be registered in a different industry than some of the establishments.

Variance between preliminary and final figures

The data is not as thoroughly revised for the preliminary figures for 2007 as is the case for the final figures for 2007, which will be published in February 2009. In 2005 and 2006 the number of persons employed within manufacturing, mining and quarrying were respectively 0.2 per cent and 0.5 per cent lower for final figures compared with preliminary figures. In 2005 turnover was 1.1 per cent higher when publishing final figures, while it was 0.5 per cent lower in 2006.
