Increase within manufacturing
Value added within mining, quarrying and manufacturing grew by 7.7 per cent from 2009 to 2010, but was still lower than for 2008.
Total value added, at factor prices, amounted to NOK 184 billion. Sør-Trøndelag and Rogaland had the highest growth.
Better times within basic metals
After a decline in production value caused by a marked drop in demand due to the financial crisis, both production levels (see index of production ) and prices (see producer price index ) within production of basic metals increased from 2009 to 2010. As a result, value added rose to NOK 10 billion; an increase of NOK 6 billion compared to 2009.
Other industries with high growth were food, beverages and tobacco, repair and installation of machinery and equipment and manufacture of refined petroleum products, chemicals and pharmaceutical products. For food, beverages and tobacco and repair and installation of machinery and equipment some of the growth has to be attributed to regroupings.
Despite a general growth within manufacturing, some industries experienced a decrease in value added. The largest decline was within production of machinery and equipment.
Fewer persons employed
The number of persons employed within mining, quarrying and manufacturing was approximately 235 000 in 2010; a reduction of 22 000 persons since 2008. There were 9 000 fewer persons employed within manufacturing in 2010 than 2009, while there was a small increase in the number of persons employed within mining and quarrying.
Decline in gross investment
Gross investments continued to fall in 2010. Investments declined by 21.8 per cent, or NOK 5 billion. The largest reduction was found within manufacture of refined petroleum products, chemicals and pharmaceutical products, where gross investments halved compared to 2009. Gross investments within mining and quarrying were also reduced.
Enterprise figures
Value added for enterprises within mining, quarrying and manufacturing rose by NOK 11 billion, or 6.3 per cent. These enterprises employed 236 000 persons and turnover amounted to NOK 677 billion.
Statistics at enterprise levelThe figures at enterprise level may differ from figures at local KAU level. This is due to some enterprises being registered in one industry group according to main activity, whilst having local KAUs in other groups. |
