Increase in man-years

The number of man-years in nursing and care services increased by 6 per cent from 2005 to 2006. This is in line with the increase in recipients of home-based services, which increased by 4 per cent. The number of institution beds remained stable in the same period.

The number of recipients of home-based services (home nursing and home help) was 170 000 in 2006, while the number of beds in institutions was 41 000. Almost 117 000 man-years were registered in municipal nurse and care services. When we look at recipients of home-based services and the number of beds as a whole, there has been a slight increase in the number of man-years1 per recipient to 0.49.

Increase in young and old residents in dwellings

Whilst the number of institution beds is fairly constant, there has been an increase in the number of residents in dwellings for the aged and disabled. 34 per cent of these residents live in dwellings with 24-hour service. Both the number of residents below 67 years of age and the number of residents above 85 years of age have increased by around 5 per cent.

Strong increase in nursing and care expenses

Expenses for municipal nursing and care services rose by 9 per cent to NOK 58 billion in 2006.
