More assistance to persons with most need

Recipients with the strongest need for assistance receive most home nursing and home help per week. The average number of hours per week for people with extensive need for assistance is 12 times higher than for people with less need for assistance.

As of 2007, the statistics regarding users of municipal nursing and care services are based on results from the IPLOS register. Compared to the results from previous years this has resulted in a break in the time series. Thus the figures for 2007 are not comparable with the results from previous years.

According to the IPLOS register the number of recipients of home-based services (home nursing and home help) is now 161 000, while the number of institution residents is 42 000. Long-term residents in institutions for the aged and disabled also have the strongest need for assistance.

The younger groups of recipients (below 50 years of age) are assigned with most hours of home-based services per week.

More than 118 000 man-years are registered in municipal nurse and care services.
