Fewer beds in nursing homes
The 2009 nursing and care statistics show a decrease in the number of nursing home beds. Although a tiny decrease - only 69 beds - this is the first time Statistics Norway has recorded a decrease for this figure.
At the same time, there is a small growth in the number of dwellings for the aged and disabled with service connected. Thus, the total 24-hour service has remained at about the same level. The re-building of rooms for several persons to rooms for one person and a generally higher standard have also resulted in fewer beds, excluding new beds. The private run institutions make up 10.5 per cent of the total, which represents a slight increase only.
The number of man-years increased by 2 per cent to about 123 500.
The number of recipients of home-based services aged 0-66 years is still increasing, currently by 9 per cent. Parts of the increase may be due to municipal registry practice. Compared to both the total number of recipients and the population of the same age, there is an increase for this group, which currently accounts for 38 per cent of the recipients. In addition, the younger get more services than the older; as an average, they receive 13 hours per week, whilst the older get 4 hours.
There was an increase of 4 per cent in the total number of home-based recipients.
Gross operating expenditures amounted to NOK 75 billion; an increase of 6 per cent from the previous year. Both expenditure and man-year figures reflect the transition from institutions to home-based services.
