Decrease in sterilizations among women
A total number of 4 573 sterilizations were reported the previous year, 3 093 on men and 1 477 on women. Compared with 2001, excluding Akershus county, a decrease in 27 male and 2 769 female sterilizations were observed.
From 2002 a 100 per cent user charge for sterilization was introduced, NOK 6 079 for women and 1 268 for men. The level of male sterilization did not change from 2001 to 2002 despite the introduction of user charge. However, female sterilization decreased with 65 per cent.
The regional figures were based on the county where the sterilizations was performed and not on the county of residence of the person sterilized. Sterilization may be performed in another county than the county of residence. County statistics on sterilizations performed per 1000 inhabitants can therefore be inaccurate.
In year 2002, we have not received the specifications for Akershus county. Akershus is excluded for all years in the figures for the whole country in the table below.
