Great regional differences in consumption
Households in Oslo and Akershus consume 25 per cent more than households in Nord Norge. Household's expenditure habits as such have not changed much.
Second to transport is expenditure on housing the most important in 2003-2005.
Due to small yearly samples is it only possible to publish results from the survey for groups of households when samples for tree years are combined.
Housing is the item taking the largest share of consumption spending, with transport a second. Recreation and culture is the third most important household expenditure item while spending on food is at the fourth place.
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuel make up the largest expenditure item, at NOK 84 700 on average per household per year in the period. This amounts to 26.2 per cent of total spending, that is, approximately one-fourth.
Spending on transport appears to have stabilised its share of the total. In the 2003-2005 period transport amounted to approximately one-sixth of household spending, at NOK 58 500.
The third largest item of household spending is recreation and culture, at NOK 39 900, with a share of 12.3 per cent in the period.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages comprise on average NOK 37 800 per household per year or 11.7 per cent in the period 2003-2005.
The share of spending on clothing and footwear has been stable over the past years, and is at around five per cent for the average household in the period 2003-2005. The average household spent NOK 18 000 on clothing and footwear per year in the period.
Furniture and household equipment make up 6.5 per cent of spending on average. Average household spending is stable at NOK 21 000.
Private expenditure on health care is NOK 9 700 or 3 per cent of spending per year in the period.
Spending on communication (postage and telephone services) comprises 2.6 per cent of expenditure or NOK 8 500 per year for the average household.
Education is a small expenditure item for the average household, at NOK 1 000 in the period 2003-2005 or 0.3 per cent of spending.
