690 000 persons had assessed surtax in 2005. This was 60 000 fewer than in 2004 and 240 000 fewer than in 2001. Assessed surtax amounted to NOK 15.1 billion compared to NOK 16.5 billion the year before.

In addition to an increase in thresholds, the surtax rates were reduced in 2005. The lower threshold rate was reduced by 1.5 point, amounting to 12 percent in 2005. The higher threshold rate was reduced by 4 points to 15.5 per cent. About 25 per cent of the persons with assessed surtax were women.

Income and wealth taxes

Total assessed taxes before deductions amounted to NOK 297.1 billion. Of this county income tax amounted to NOK 118.7 billion, community tax was NOK 86.5 billion, and wealth tax NOK 8.8 billion. Membership contribution to the national insurance amounted to NOK 67 billion.

Tax deduction and reduction

Total tax deduction and tax reduction amounted to NOK 34 billion. Of this 80 per cent was tax deduction for received dividends.
