Growing numbers working in fish farming

In 2016, about 7 850 persons were engaged in aquaculture production. This is 14 per cent more than the year before.

A total of 7 270 persons were engaged in the production of salmon and trout, 430 in the production of other fish species and 150 worked in shellfish farming.

17 per cent women
In 2016, 1 210 women were employed in salmon and trout production. The share of women employed in this production has remained stable in recent years. Overall, 7 270 persons were engaged in salmon and trout production. This is up 14 per cent from 2015, and more than twice as much as ten years ago.
Most employees in Hordaland
In terms of employment, Hordaland is the largest fish farming county in Norway, with 1 730 employees in 2016. This is 7 per cent more than the year before. A total of 1 610 persons were employed in salmon and trout production; 1 300 men and 310 women.
