Increased vegetable production

In 2016, the total production of vegetables increased by 14 100 tonnes from 2015 to 199 500 tonnes.

The total production of field grown vegetables is estimated at 170 000 tonnes in 2016; an increase of 12 200 tonnes from the year before. Carrots represented about 30 per cent of the production of field-grown vegetables, while onions made up 14 per cent. The production of greenhouse vegetables increased by 1 900 tonnes to a total of 29 900 tonnes from 2015 to 2016. Cucumbers and tomatoes amounted to 53 and 37 per cent respectively of the total production of vegetables in 2016.

The total production of fruit is estimated at 15 100 tonnes; an increase of 2 300 tonnes from the year before. Apples represented 12 400 tonnes of the total fruit production, plums 1 800 tonnes and sweet cherries 600 tonnes.
The production of garden berries was reduced by 2 500 tonnes to a total of 12 600 tonnes from 2015 to 2016. Strawberries amounted to 8 700 tonnes of the total production of garden berries, while raspberries amounted to 2 900 tonnes.
