Reduced catch and landed value
Norwegian vessels delivered 2.1 million tonnes of fish, crustaceans and molluscs in 2012, down 7 per cent compared with 2011. The landed value amounted to NOK 14.1 billion, down 12 per cent from 2011.
Eighty-four per cent of the catch was used for consumption, while 16 per cent was used for the production of meal, oil, animal feed etc.
Fall in landed herring, increase in value
In 2012, the catch of herring was 4 per cent lower than the year before, and amounted to 29 per cent of the total catch. The landed value of the herring increased by 7 per cent, corresponding to 25 per cent of the total landed value in 2012.
Cod fishing most important
The cod catch came to 358 000 tonnes, with a value of NOK 3.8 billion. This accounted for 17 per cent of the total catch quantity and 27 per cent of the total catch value. Cod fishing was the most important in terms of value of landed catch.
Larger catch of blue whiting
In 2012, the blue whiting catch came to 118 800 tonnes, with a value of NOK 276.7 million. This is five times more than the year before, when low quotas of blue whiting resulted in a low catch.
Foreign landings amounted to NOK 2.3 billion
Foreign vessels delivered 288 000 tonnes of fish and crustaceans in Norway in 2012. The total value of the foreign landings was NOK 2.3 billion.
The statistics are based on data from the Directorate of Fisheries per 18 January. For more information is available on the Directorate of Fisheries’ website.
A small amount of the landed fish has not yet been sold. Therefore, the value of the total catch is expected to increase slightly as these sales are registered.
Catch value/landed valueThe catch value/landed value is the amount paid to the fishermen for the catch. This includes freight and price subsidies and production tax, but not tax to the sales co-operatives. Value added tax is not included. |
