Reduced catch and landed value

Norwegian vessels delivered 2.1 million tonnes of fish, crustaceans and molluscs in 2013, down 3 per cent compared with 2012. The landed value amounted to NOK 12.5 billion, down 12 per cent from 2012.

Seventy-eight per cent of the catch was used for consumption, while 22 per cent was used for the production of meal, oil, animal feed etc.

Largest fall in capelin and herring catch

The catch of capelin decreased by 42 per cent from 2012 to 2013, to 155 100 tonnes. In the same period, the landed value of capelin dropped by 23 per cent. In 2013, the catch of herring was 17 per cent lower than the year before, and amounted to 24 per cent of the total catch. The landed value of herring decreased by 32 per cent, corresponding to 19 per cent of the total landed value in 2013.

Cod fishing most important

The cod catch came to 469 900 tonnes, with a value of NOK 3.9 billion. This accounted for 23 per cent of the total catch quantity and 32 per cent of the total catch value. Measured by the value of landed catch, cod was the most important fish.

Larger catch of blue whiting

In 2013, the blue whiting catch came to 196 200 tonnes, with a value of NOK 385 million. Compared with 2002, this is up 66 per cent for catch quantity and 39 per cent for landed value.

Foreign landings amounted to NOK 1.9 billion

Foreign vessels delivered 268 800 tonnes of fish and crustaceans in Norway in 2013. The total value of foreign landings was NOK 1.9 billion.

The statistics are based on data from the Directorate of Fisheries as per 15 January. A small amount of the landed fish has not yet been sold.

New and merged ports are included Open and readClose

From the first quarter of 2013 Harstad and Kirkenes port are included in the maritime transport statistics. Indre Tromheimsfjord port and Trondheim port are merged to Trondheim Port Authority. From the third quarter of 2013, Mosjøen port is also included in the statistics. Mosjøen represents a major part of all container transport.

 The Coastal Express Liner started sailing into Hjørundfjorden in the months of September and October as from 2013.
