Increase in catch and landed value

In 2014, Norwegian vessels delivered 2.3 million tonnes of fish, crustaceans and molluscs. This is an increase of 11 per cent compared with 2013. The landed value of catch came to NOK 14 billion, up 12 per cent from 2013.

Sixty-seven per cent of the catch was used for consumption, while 33 per cent was used for the production of meal, oil, animal feed etc.

Cod fishing most important

The cod catch came to 473 400 tonnes, with a value of NOK 4.6 billion. This accounted for 20 per cent of the total catch quantity and 32 per cent of the total catch value. Measured by the value of landed catch, cod fishing was the most important of fisheries.

Larger catches of blue whiting and mackerel

In 2014, the blue whiting catch came to 399 500 tonnes, with a value of NOK 579 million. Compared with 2013, this is twice as much in terms of catch quantity and 50 per cent more for landed value. The mackerel catch increased by 69 per cent, to 277 900 tonnes, and represented 12 per cent of the total catch quantity.

Largest fall in capelin and herring catch

From 2013 to 2014, the catch of capelin decreased by 53 per cent, to 76 700 tonnes, while the landed value dropped by 60 per cent. In 2014, the catch of herring was 20 per cent lower than the year before, and amounted to 18 per cent of the total catch. The landed value of herring decreased by 21 per cent, corresponding to 13 per cent of the total landed value in 2014.

Foreign landings amounted to NOK 2.9 billion

Foreign vessels delivered 368 500 tonnes of fish and crustaceans in Norway in 2014. The total value of the foreign landings was NOK 2.9 billion.
