Less catch - stable landed value

Norwegian vessels delivered 2.2 million tonnes of fish in 2006, a decrease by nearly 6 per cent compared with the previous year. Including crustaceans and molluscs, the landed value amounted to NOK 11.6 billion, about the same as in 2005.

The catch of herring in 2006 turned out 5 per cent lower than the year before. The landed value of the herring decreased by 22 per cent and came to NOK 2.2 billion, corresponding to 19 per cent of the total landed value in 2006.

The cod catch came to 220 000 tonnes worth NOK 3 billion. This accounts for 10 per cent of the total catch quantity and 28 per cent of the total catch value. Measured by the landed value of catch, cod fishing is the most important of fisheries

In 2006, 67 per cent of the catch was used for consumption, while 33 per cent was used for meal, oil, animal feed etc. Almost the entire catch of Norway pout, blue whiting and sand eel, and a large quantity of sprat catches are used in this production in 2006.

Foreign vessels delivered 218 000 tonnes of fish and crustaceans in Norway in 2006. Total value of the foreign landings was NOK 1.9 billion.
