Slight increase in landed catch and value
Norwegian vessels delivered 2.3 million tonnes of fish in 2007, an increase of almost 4 per cent compared with the previous year. Including crustaceans and molluscs, the landed value amounted to NOK 11.9 billion, about 2 per cent higher than in 2006.
The catch of herring in 2007 was 25 per cent higher than in 2006. The landed value of herring decreased by 1 per cent and remained stable at NOK 2.2 billion, corresponding to 19 per cent of the total landed value in 2007.
The catch of cod came to 217 000 tonnes and a value of NOK 4 billion. This accounts for 9 per cent of the total catch and 30 per cent of the total catch value. Measured by landed value, cod is the most important fish species.
68 per cent of the catch was used for consumption, while 32 per cent was used for the production of meal, oil, animal feed etc. Almost the entire catch of blue whiting, sand eel and Norway pout, and a large quantity of the sprat catch was used in the production of these products in 2007.
Foreign vessels delivered 289 000 tonnes of fish and crustaceans in Norway in 2007. The total value of the foreign landings was NOK 2.1 billion.
