Minor changes in landed catch and value

Norwegian vessels delivered 2.4 million tonnes of fish, crustaceans and molluscs in 2008 up one per cent compared with 2007. The landed value amounted to NOK 12.0 billion, about the same as the previous year.

The catch of herring in 2008 turned out 16 per cent higher than the year before. The landed value of the herring increased by 26 per cent and reached NOK 2.8 billion, corresponding to 23 per cent of the total landed value in 2008.

The cod catch came to 214 000 tonnes, with a value of NOK 3.5 billion. This accounts for 9 per cent of the total catch quantity and 29 per cent of the total catch value. Measured by the landed value of catch, cod fishing is the most important of fisheries.

A small amount of the landed fish has not yet been sold. Therefore, the value of the total catch is expected to increase slightly as these sales are registered.
