Value of catch exceeded NOK 13 billion

Norwegian vessels delivered 2.7 million tonnes of fish, crustaceans and molluscs in 2010, up 6 per cent compared with 2009. The landed value amounted to NOK 13.2 billion, up 17 per cent from the previous year.

Quantity and value of catch. 2000-2010*

Catch quantity, by fish species. 2008-2010*. Per cent

The catch of herring in 2010 turned out 15 per cent lower than the year before, and amounted to 34 per cent of the total catch. The landed value of the herring increased by 2 per cent, corresponding to 21 per cent of the total landed value in 2010.

The cod catch came to 283 000 tonnes, with a value of NOK 2.9 billion. This accounted for 11 per cent of the total catch quantity and 25 per cent of the total catch value. Measured by the landed value of catch, cod fishing was the most important of fisheries.

The catch of mackerel was about 234 000 tonnes in 2010, almost twice as much as the previous year. A total of 70 000 tonnes of this catch related to a rest quota transferred from 2009 to 2010.

A small amount of the landed fish has not yet been sold. Therefore, the value of the total catch is expected to increase slightly as these sales are registered.

Catch value, by fish species. 2008-2010*. Per cent

Seventy-nine per cent of the catch was used for consumption, while 21 per cent was used for the production of meals, oil, animal feed etc.

Foreign vessels delivered 296 000 tonnes of fish and crustaceans in Norway in 2010. The total value of the foreign landings was NOK 1.7 billion.

The statistics are based on data from the Directorate of Fisheries. For more information is available on the Directorate of Fisheries’ website.

Catch value/landed value

Catch value/landed value means the amount paid to the fishermen for the catch. This includes freight and price subsidies and production tax, but not tax to the sales co-operatives. Value added tax is not included.
